It was a pleasure to have you here and get a few minutes to share and chat with you all.   Thank you again for all of the classroom donations.  It has really helped and very much appreciated!!!!  I will also be sending home the conference schedule.  I assigned times to those who did not sign up.  If the time will not work for you, I am also happy to do a conference before school.  Let me know.

Language Arts: Our Houghton Mifflin story is Minerva at School. This is a fun story about a hen who goes to school! It gives us an opportunity to see the difference between reality and fantasy in a story.

Grammar: We will take a look at naming words (nouns) in the stories we read this week and well as notice all the words with the short E sound.

Writing: We will continue to write each day to our Mystery Person paying attention to spell all of our word wall words correctly and begin each sentence with a capital and end with the correct punctuation.

Word Wall Words: Your children will learn 5 new word wall words each week and together we will put them on our Word Wall. Listed below are the word wall words from Kindergarten and the 5 new ones. It is my hope that you will make a word wall at home or make flashcards to practice daily with your child. This will help your child with reading, writing, and spelling.

Mystery Person: Each day we will have fun discovering who is going to be the Mystery Person. This engaging activity helps students learn about their new classmates as well as practice reading, writing and spelling. Look for your child's Mystery Person book to come home!

Math: Our focus this week will continue to be using our math strategies with addition, finding missing addends, and word problems with number bonds.

Lexia Reading Core 5 Program: It is very helpful for you child to work in this program each day at home. This is a self directed program that helps your child with reading and spelling skills. Your child will need a head set to listen to the directions and complete it without any help as they do here at school. I receive a report as to the progress the children are making at with the program at home. I highly recommend it! To access it follow these 4 steps..

1. google lexia core 5
2 go to...
www.lexialearning.com/products/core5
3. go to "sign in" at the top right
4  scroll down to Core5
5. put in my email Robin_Victory@pvusd.net (if needed)
6. your child will type in his/her username and password from the card provided
7.***Another option is going through the Rio Website, clicking on Students, then going to Games and finding Lexia, then type in username/password.

Moby Max is HERE!

MobyMax is a computer based program and just like the Lexia Reading Core 5 Program, this is a self directed program that helps your child with academic skills at home. Your child will need a head set and then will be able to work in the program without any help.  I receive a progress report just like the Core 5 Program.  Your child will be working in the "math and fact fluency" section. Each student has a unique login. Follow the steps written on your child's log in card. I stapled it to your child's class folder.

Dear Families,

Welcome to first grade and to Room 4! I've been working to get the classroom ready for your children and look forward to getting started with school on Wednesday. I'm excited to see many familiar families on my roster and look forward to meeting the new ones.

The following will help smooth out first day jitters:
  • Before school, make sure your child knows how they will be going home and where they will meet you at the end of the day. Make sure this information is written on the "Going Home" chart on the window.
  • My room will be open around 7:50.
  • Have your child leave their lunch outside the classroom.
  • Find their name and hang backpack on hook.
  • Say your goodbyes and have your child sit down at their desk.
  • You should receive a packet of papers on the first day of school, please send it back ASAP.
  • As parents, enjoy your first day of first grade and celebrate your child's independence!
The following day and everyday thereafter, the children will keep their backpacks with them and go directly up to the playground. There is yard duty supervision beginning at 7:30 on the lower playground if you arrive early.  After the second week of school, to help your child become an independent first grader. It is our hope and expectation that your child will join their classmates upstairs before the first bell rings. In the event of rain, they will go to the MPR before school starts.

I am looking forward to a fantastic year!
