Dear Families,

I am looking forward to starting Centers this week!  We have been practicing so hopefully everything will run smoothly.

Here's a peek at our week:

Language Arts: Our Houghton Mifflin stories will be non fiction about our 4 seasons. These stories will give us an opportunity to read facts and learn to write in the information genre. Now would be a great time to head to the local library and check out non fiction books on topics that interest your children.

Grammar:  We will work to start to notice how authors use quotations marks in their writing working to incorporate them into our writing soon.

Writer's Workshop: Ask your children about their story because we are in full swing writing a personal narrative looking at a small moment in our lives and the BIG THING THAT HAPPENED during that small moment. It all starts from an EMOTION! So cool!

Word Wall Words: Your children will learn new word wall words each week and together we will put them on our Word Wall. Listed below are the word wall words from Kindergarten. It is my hope that you will make a word wall at home or make flashcards to practice daily with your child. This will help your child with reading, writing, and spelling.

Math: We will work on the skill of SUBITIZING. This is the ability to take a "quick look" and be able to recognize the quantity of objects in a set without having to count each individually. We will use a ten frame and tens sticks to practice.

Dear Families,

Wow! Thanks to ALL OF YOU for helping your students remember to bring their Just Right Reading Bag to and from school each day. They are doing great and their reading skills are improving!

Language Arts: Our Houghton Mifflin stories will continue to be fiction stories. These stories will give us an opportunity to  think about the topic, main idea and the details from a story. We will also read many books about fall and graph the similarities and differences from summer.

Grammar:  We will work to see the differences between a phrase and a complete sentence.

Writer's Workshop: We will begin this program starting with writing a personal narrative looking at a small moment in our lives and the BIG THING THAT HAPPENED during that small moment.

Word Wall Words: Your children will learn new word wall words each week and together we will put them on our Word Wall. Listed below are the word wall words from Kindergarten. Dear Families,

It was great to see you all at Back to School Night.  I look forward to volunteers in the classroom beginning the first week of October.

Thank you to those families who are helping their children be responsible completing and bringing in their daily homework: reading log and leveled book bag.

Here is a peek at the following week:

Language Arts: Our Houghton Mifflin stories will continue to be fiction stories about animals. These stories will give us an opportunity to summarize a story and comprehend its story structure along with the opportunity to read many CVC words.

Grammar: Finding action words (verbs) in a sentence

Writing: We will soon conclude our Mystery Person Writing Program which has given us a great venue to work on our writing. We will continue to write in our Weekend Journal and write in our Reading Response Journals paying attention to spell all of the word wall words correctly, begin each sentence with a capital and end with the correct punctuation.

Word Wall Words: Your children will learn new word wall words each week and together we will put them on our Word Wall. Listed below are the word wall words from Kindergarten.
