Welcome Back....

Lexia Reading Core 5 Program: 
It is very helpful for you child to work in this program each day at home. This is a self directed program that helps your child with reading and spelling skills. Your child will need a head set to listen to the directions and complete it without any help as they do here at school. I receive a report as to the progress the children are making at with the program at home. I highly recommend it! To access it follow these 4 steps..

2 go to...
www.lexialearning.com/products/core5
3. go to "sign in" at the top right
4  scroll down to Core5
5 put in my email lea_robinson@pvusd.net (if needed)
4. your child will type in his/her username and password from the card provided

Moby Max is HERE! 
MobyMax is a computer based program and just like the Lexia Reading Core 5 Program, this is a self directed program that helps your child with academic skills at home. Your child will need a head set and then will be able to work in the program without any help.  I receive a progress report just like the Core 5 Program.  Your child will be working in the "math and fact fluency" section. Each student has a unique login. Follow these steps:

1. go to www.mobymax.com
2. fill in school name... rio del mar 
3. click "sign in" 
4. click "as a student"
5. user name is your child's first name all lower case letters
6. password is your child's first name all lower case letters


Language Arts: We will enjoy a new story this week, The Kite, which will focus on clarifying, cause/effect, as well as using writing base words with ing. 

Phonics: Your child will learn new phonograms each week as we go through our Total Reading Program. Please look for your child's work each day and have fun going on phonogram hunts as you read your books together each night. So far we have learned: sh, th, ee, er, ch, ck, wh, ea, ai, ay, ed, ou, ow

Word Wall Words: Here is the list of the current words on our word wall. It is a great idea to make a word wall at home or flashcards to help your child master the reading/spelling of these words. We will add 5 more word each week so knowing these is very important.

New Word Wall Words: time, our, why, when, too

Writing: We will continue our school wide writing program, Writing Workshop, working on our narrative pieces focusing on a small moment in time.

Grammar: We will work on writing complete sentence making sure that each sentence has a noun,  a verb, begins with a capital letter and ends with the correct punctuation. We will also work on writing sentences using I or me.

Math: We will begin Unit 4 in our Bridges Math Program which focuses around the number line. Students will locate numbers on a number line, use their reasoning skills and number sense to determine unknown values as while exploring addition and subtraction. The range of numbers in this unit grow from 0-20 to 0-120.

Reminder: Please sign and return your child's empty report card envelope.

Writing: We will continue our school wide writing program, Writing Workshop, working on our narrative pieces. We celebrated on Thursday with our third grade friends and had so much fun sharing our "small moment" stories.

Grammar: We will work on writing complete sentence making sure that each sentence has a noun,  a verb, begins with a capital letter and ends with the correct punctuation.

Math: We will practice addition and subtraction facts up to 20 using the Thanksgiving Theme.

Reminder: Thanksgiving holiday next week so no school Wed, Thurs., and Fri.

Grammar: We will work on writing complete sentence making sure that each sentence has a noun,  a verb, begins with a capital letter and ends with the correct punctuation. This week we will focus on sentences that end with a punctuation.

Math: We will work in Unit 3 Module 4 in our Bridges Math Program where the focus is writing addition expressions and comparing equations within the range of 0-120. We will use unifix cubes throughout this module. This module also helps the children develop strategies in solving subtraction equations when one of the parts is missing. We will continue to work on the following skills; strategies to add with sums to 20, representing amounts of tens and ones, adding numbers together and thinking of ten as a bundle. Bridges Unit 3

Reminder: Our Rio Book Fair is the week of parent conferences. We hope you will plan on doing some shopping and supporting our school! A great time to shop is right after your parent teacher conference!

Parent Teacher Conferences: The week of November 14th is our Parent Teacher Conference Week. Each day is a short day with dismissal at 12:20.  If you need to change your time just let me know.


Take Home Folders: I provided your child with a Take Home Folder at the beginning of the year. These folders are very important as it is the way your child brings home all the work from the school day.  I see that many of the folders are wearing out so please feel free to buy your child a new one. I think the plastic ones are the best. .

Holiday: Reminder tomorrow, Friday, November 11th is a holiday and school is closed.

Language Arts: We will enjoy a new story from our Houghton Mifflin Reading Series; Bud's Day Out.  The strategy focus for this story is sequence of events. We will also continue to focus on the elements of a story; beginning, middle, end, problem and solution.

Phonics: We will learn new phonograms this week as we go through our Total Reading Program. Please look for your child's work each day and have fun going on phonogram hunts as you read your together each night. So far we have learned: sh, th, ee, er, ch, ck, wh, ea, ai, ay, ou, ow

Grammar: We will work on writing complete sentence making sure that each sentence has a noun,  a verb, begins with a capital letter and ends with the correct punctuation.

Math: We will work in Unit 3 Module 2 in our Bridges Math Program where the focus is again on addition and subtraction facts. The number rack will be used to help students recognize number combinations, up to 10, find the sum of two numbers, and compare two numbers to find the difference between them. Bridges Unit 3
