Here's what coming up....


Halloween: Come and join us on the lower playground for our Halloween Parade 10:35-10:50 and our classroom party from 11:30-1:15...


Language Arts: We will enjoy two new stories from our Houghton Mifflin Reading Series; Pearl's First Prize Plant and Bud's Day Out.  The strategy focus for each is monitoring and clarifying. We will continue to focus on the elements of a story; beginning, middle, end, problem and solution.

Phonics: We will learn new phonograms this week as we go through our Total Reading Program. Please look for your child's work each day and have fun going on phonogram hunts as you read your together each night. So far we have learned: sh, th, ee, er, ch, ck, wh, ea, ow, ou

Word Wall Words: Here is the list of the current words on our word wall.(see below) It is a great idea to make a word wall or use flashcards at home to help your child master the reading of these words. We will add 5 more word each week so knowing these is very important.

New Word Wall Words: some, people, want, your, now

Writing: We will continue our school wide writing program, Writing Workshop, working on our narrative pieces. We are finishing up the publishing phase and when that is done, we will enter into the last phase, celebration which will happen next Thursday with our Big Buddies!

Grammar: We will work on writing complete sentence making sure that each sentence has a noun,  a verb, begins with a capital letter and ends with the correct punctuation.

Math: We will work in Unit 3 Module 2 in our Bridges Math Program where the focus is again on addition and subtraction facts. The number rack will be used to help students recognize number combinations, up to 10, find the sum of two numbers, and compare two numbers to find the difference between them. Bridges Unit 3

Reminder: Our Rio Book Fair is the week of parent conferences. We hope you will plan on doing some shopping and supporting our school!

Writing: We will continue our new school wide writing program, Writing Workshop, working on our narrative pieces. We are in the editing phase this week.

Grammar: We will work on reading and writing complete sentence finding the action part of a sentence, verbs, as well as the nouns.

Math: We will work in Unit 3 Module 1 in our Bridges Math Program where students will focus on single digit number facts, fact families as well as adding and subtraction using our doubles strategies. Working on these skills at home is a great help to your child!

Reminder: Our Rio Book Fair is the week of parent conferences. We hope you will plan on doing some shopping and supporting our school!

Language Arts: We will enjoy two new stories from our Houghton Mifflin Reading Series; Hilda Hen's Scary Night and What a Trip. The strategy focus for each is questioning and the comprehension strategy is categorizing and classifying. We will continue to focus on the elements of a story; beginning, middle, end, problem and solution.

Phonics: We will learn new phonograms this week as we go through our Total Reading Program. Please look for your child's work each day and have fun going on phonogram hunts as you read your together each night. So far we have learned: sh, th, wh, ch.

Word Wall Words:

Writing: We will continue our new school wide writing program, Writing Workshop, working on our narrative pieces. We will finish the revision phase and go into the editing phase this week.

Grammar: We will work on finding the action part of a sentence as we read and write this week.

Math: We will work in Unit 2 Module 4 in our Bridges Math Program where students will focus on counting by 5s and 10s to become more efficient at counting amounts larger than 10. We will also work with the coins, pennies, nickels and dimes this week which will give your child another opportunity to count by 1s, 5s and 10s. Working with coins at home is a great help to your child!

Reminder: Our Rio Book Fair is the week of parent conferences so why not plan on doing some early holiday shopping and supporting our school?!

Hi Families,


Hope you all enjoy your long three day weekend.  Thank you so much for the donations to buy our privacy boards! We are also in need of: two pocket folders, heavy duty page protectors, colored pencils, and prizes for our prize box.

Here is a peek at our upcoming week:

Language Arts: We will enjoy a new story this week from our Houghton Mifflin Reading Series titled Mr. C's Dinner. We will continue to focus on predicting and inferring as well as working on summarizing the stories we read; beginning, middle, and end.

Phonics: We began our Total Reading Program starting with the /sh/ sound like in the words, shut, shop and ship. We will learn a few more this week. Have fun finding these new phonograms in the stories that you and your children are reading.

Writing: We will continue our new school wide writing program, Writing Workshop, working on our narrative pieces. We are in the "picking a seed" phase for the coming week.

Grammar: We will work on find the nouns in the sentences that we read and write.

Social Studies: We will use our Studies Weekly periodical to learn about the American and California flags, the Pledge of Allegiance and the history of Labor Day. Being kind to others will be weaved into all the daily lessons.

Math: We will work in Unit 2  Module 3 in our Bridges Math Program where students will focus on developing addition and subtraction strategies, particularly doubling, counting on, and counting back to solve combinations within twelve.
