Dear Families,
We are so excited for Halloween! We hope to see you all at our
school parade Tuesday, October 31st at 8:30 on the lower playground.
Classroom Needs: Thank you for the donations! We could still use Prize Box items.
Field Trip: We will be taking our first field trip on November 13th. Look for the permission slip to come home soon. Please fill it out and return ASAP also with any needed paperwork to drive. Also, be sure that you are fingerprinted and TB tested if you wish to drive.
Language Arts: Our strategy focus will be evaluating, comparing and contrasting.
Grammar: We
will focus on reading different types of sentences and marking them as a
telling sentence or a question sentence.
Phonics: We
will work with letter clusters with /s/, short /e/ and silent letters in /kn/,
/wr/ and /gn/.
Phonograms: We have begun our learning about phonograms, two letters that when
written together make one or more sounds. We learned /ai/ /ay/ /ee/ /er/ /ir/
/ur/ /ear/ this week.
Writer's Workshop: We have begin our new unit focusing on opinion writing. We started with the story Hey Little Ant.
Word Wall Words: Your children will learn 5 new word wall words each week and
together we will put them on our Word Wall. Listed below are the word wall
words on our wall so far and the 5 new ones. It is my hope that you will make a
word wall at home or make flashcards to practice daily with
your child. This will help your child with reading, writing, and spelling.

Star of the Week: We will begun our Star of the Week Program and LOVE learning more
about our first grade friends. Please check out the Star of the Week Schedule
listed to the right. If you have any questions or need to make a change in the
schedule, just let me know.
Math: Our
next unit in math encourages student mastery of key number facts and fact
strategies for single digit addition and subtraction up to 20. We will use the
strategies already introduced and emphasis COUNTING ON.
CGI: In
an effort to increase rigor and incorporate more mathematical teaching
strategies that will help reinforce the Standards of Mathematical Practice, I will
begin teaching a rigorous story problem using the CGI, Cognitive Guided
Instruction, approach. This will help me learn how your child problem solves
and also help me to guide and plan my instruction.
Lexia Reading Core 5 Program: It is very helpful for you child to work
in this program each day at home. This is a self directed program that helps
your child with reading and spelling skills. Your child will need a head set to
listen to the directions and complete it without any help as they do here at school.
I receive a report as to the progress the children are making at with the
program at home. I highly recommend it! To access it follow these 4 steps..
1. google lexia core 5
2 go to...
www.lexialearning.com/products/core5
3. go to "sign in" at the top right
4 scroll down to Core5
5 put in my email lea_robinson@pvusd.net (if needed)
4. your child will type in his/her username and password from the
card provided
Moby Max is HERE!
MobyMax is a computer based program
and just like the Lexia Reading Core 5 Program, this is a self directed program
that helps your child with academic skills at home. Using a headset, your child
will be able to work in the program without any help. I receive a weekly
progress report just like the Core 5 Program and hope to see your child
progressing in a consistent manner through the program. Your child will
be working in the "math and fact fluency" section. Each student has a
unique login. Follow the steps written on your child's log in card. I stapled
it to your child's class folder.
