Dear Families,

Happy Fall!!!!

Language Arts: In all the stories we listen to and read, we will determine if they are fiction or non fiction.

Grammar: We will continue looking at a sentence deciding if it is a complete sentence or not. In all the  sentences we write and read, we will be looking for the verb and noun.

Phonics: We will look at short vowel words and learn why they are short and how to mark them.

Writing: We will write about our new season, Fall, and with each type of writing we do, we will use COPS(COPS stands for: Capitals, Overall appearance, Spaces between our words, and does it make Sense?) to edit our work.

Writer's Workshop: We have worked through the first two stages in this writing program, Gathering and Picking a Seed. We will continue to write our stories starting with the BIG THING THAT HAPPENED.

Word Wall Words: Your children will learn 5 new word wall words each week and together we will put them on our Word Wall. Listed below are the word wall words from Kindergarten and the 5 new ones. It is my hope that you will make a word wall at home or make flashcards to practice daily with your child. This will help your child with reading, writing, and spelling.

Math: Our focus this week will continue to be using our math strategies with addition and starting our look at subtraction using Fact Families.

Lexia Reading Core 5 Program: I will be sending home your child's Lexia Core Reading password/access code stapled in their homework folders on Monday.  It is very helpful for you child to work in this program each day at home. This is a self directed program that helps your child with reading and spelling skills. Your child will need a head set to listen to the directions and complete it without any help as they do here at school. I receive a report as to the progress the children are making at with the program at home. I highly recommend it! To access it follow these 4 steps..

1. google lexia core 5
2 go to...
www.lexialearning.com/products/core5
3. go to "sign in" at the top right
4  scroll down to Core5
5 put in my email robin_victory@pvusd.net (if needed)
4. your child will type in his/her username and password from the card provided

Moby Max is HERE!

MobyMax is a computer based program and just like the Lexia Reading Core 5 Program, this is a self directed program that helps your child with academic skills at home. Using a headset, your child will be able to work in the program without any help.  I receive a weekly progress report just like the Core 5 Program and hope to see your child progressing in a consistent manner through the program.  Your child will be working in the "math and fact fluency" section. Each student has a unique login. Follow the steps written on your child's log in card. I stapled it to your child's class folder.

It was a pleasure to have you here and get a few minutes to share and chat with you all.   Thank you again for all of the classroom donations.  It has really helped and very much appreciated!!!!  I will also be sending home the conference schedule.  I assigned times to those who did not sign up.  If the time will not work for you, I am also happy to do a conference before school.  Let me know.

Language Arts: Our Houghton Mifflin story is Minerva at School. This is a fun story about a hen who goes to school! It gives us an opportunity to see the difference between reality and fantasy in a story.

Grammar: We will take a look at naming words (nouns) in the stories we read this week and well as notice all the words with the short E sound.
