Dear Families,

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday.  I am so thankful for this amazing group of first graders!

Field Trip: Thank you to our drivers and to the special people at Jacob's Heart. We learned so much and we loved helping with the card making and bag decorating!

Classroom Donations: Thank you so much for the classroom donations and your generous donations to our classroom fund! We could still use large ziplock bags, and sour patch kids.

Star of the Week:  Please look at the schedule, right hand side of this post, to see when it is your child's turn to be Star. If the week I have chosen doesn't work for you, please let me know and we can change it. There is a lot of flexibility with this program so feel free to change the activities to best suit your family. Have fun and we can't wait to learn more about all our Stars!

Language Arts: Our stories and writing will be around the Thanksgiving Theme.

Grammar:  Sentences that end with a period, exclamation mark or a question mark.

Writer's Workshop: We are finishing up our opinion pieces and looking forward to writing another one after our Thanksgiving Vacation.

Word Wall Words: Your children will learn new word wall words each week and together we will put them on our Word Wall. Listed below are the word wall words from Kindergarten. It is my hope that you will make a word wall at home or make flashcards to practice daily with your child. This will help your child with reading, writing, and spelling.

Also this entire month we will focus on learning to tell time to the hour and half hour using an analog clock. Now would be a GREAT time to get an analog clock for your child to tell time to the hour and half hour with you at home.

Dear Families,

It was a short busy week but it was WONDERFUL to meet with all of you to share about your child!

Field Trip: Thank you! We are excited to go to Jacob's Heart on Friday, November 16th to help serve our community in a very meaningful way. We will leave around 8:30.

Language Arts: We will enjoy a story about a hermit carb that examines a variety of seashells before it finds just the right one to call home. The strategy focus is questioning as well as comparing and contrasting.

Grammar:  We will focus on sentences that are filled with strong emotions. These are sentences that would end in an exclamation mark.

Writer's Workshop: We are working in our opinion piece. We gathered ideas for our opinion writing, used a graphic organizer to help us organize our thoughts and now are writing our draft! We love sharing our opinions!

Dear Families,

Thank you to our AMAZING Room Moms and all volunteers for making our Halloween so much fun! We all had a blast!

Parent/Teacher Conference: I look forward to seeing you next week at conferences. Text or email me if you forgot your time.

Field Trip:
Thank you! We have MOST of the field trip forms turned in. Please fill out the forms your child took home for our upcoming field trip and remind your child to bring them back to school. We are excited to go to Jacob's Heart on November 16th to help serve our community in a very meaningful way.

Reminder: Anytime you are on campus, you must stop by the office, sign in, and fill out a name tag.

Language Arts: Our Houghton Mifflin story this week is a realistic fiction story about a dog named Bud. This story will help us learn to monitor and clarify events in a story as we read.

Grammar:  We will focus on asking sentences. These are sentences that would end in a question mark. As your encourage your child to write at home, this is a good time to add asking questions to their writing.

Writer's Workshop: We have started our Writers' Workshop Opinion Writing Unit. We learned the difference between a fact and an opinion. A fact is something that is true and can be proven and an opinion is something you feel strongly about and can support with reasons. We will gather ideas for our opinion writing next week and start writing our own opinion pieces.
