Hi Families,

Thank you for reminding your child to work in his/her Lexia Core 5 and Moby Max programs at home each day! I am seeing a HUGE improvement in their skills!

Lexia Reading Core 5 Program: It is very helpful for you child to work in this program each day at home. This is a self directed program that helps your child with reading and spelling skills. Your child will need a head set to listen to the directions and complete it without any help as they do here at school. I receive a report as to the progress the children are making at with the program at home. I highly recommend it! To access it follow these 4 steps..
1. google lexia core 5
2 go to...
www.lexialearning.com/products/core5
3. go to "sign in" at the top right
4  scroll down to Core5
5 put in my email lea_robinson@pvusd.net (if needed)
4. your child will type in his/her username and password from the card provided

Moby Max
MobyMax is a computer based program and just like the Lexia Reading Core 5 Program, this is a self directed program that helps your child with academic skills at home. Your child will need a head set and then will be able to work in the program without any help.  I receive a progress report just like the Core 5 Program.  Your child will be working in the "math and fact fluency" section. Each student has a unique login. Follow these steps:

1. go to www.mobymax.com
2. fill in school name... rio del mar
3. click "sign in"
4. click "as a student"
5. user name is your child's first name all lower case letters
6. password is your child's first name all lower case letters

Language Arts: Our story this week in our Houghton Mifflin Reading Series is called Lost! The comprehension focus for this story is sequencing events.

Phonics:
Your child will learn new phonograms each week as we go through our Total Reading Program. Have fun going on phonogram hunts as you read your books together each night. So far we have learned: sh, th, ee, er, ch, ck, wh, ea, ai, ay, ed, ou, ow, oo, or, oe, oa, igh

Word Wall Words:
Here is the list of the current words on our word wall. It is a great idea to make a word wall at home or flashcards to help your child master the reading/spelling of these words. We will add 5 more word each week so knowing these is very important.

Writers' Workshop: For the next 6 weeks we will focus on informational writing. We have started by writing our own class 'how to' book. We wrote about how to make a PB&J sandwich. Your children will be writing their own how to books and move into writing a teaching book on a topic of their choice.

Grammar: We are working on proper nouns for places and things, compound words and contractions along with putting words into ABC order.

Math: We will focus on a review unit on place value as well as continuing to work on our addition and subtraction facts to 20. As always, it will really help your child if you work on these skills daily at home.

Classroom Needs: paper towels, baby wipes, tissues, Clorox wipes, high lighters, white board markers, colored markers
