Hi Families,

We only have 30 more school days left of first grade! We are talking a lot about what it is to be a second grader and will be visiting the second grade classrooms soon.

Writer's Workshop: We are deep into writing our own Fiction stories. The kids are working hard making sure their story has an interesting beginning,  middle full of details, a fabulous end with a problem and solution. Reading as many fiction stories as possible at home would be a great way to help your child.

Math: We will continue adding two digit numbers with and without carrying as well as adding coins. We will also review telling time to the hour and half hour.

Class Play:  We will be performing a short, sweet little play, A Year with Frog and Toad, at the end of May.  I will let you know the date soon.  We will be deciding parts next week . The kids are so excited!!!!

Author's Fair: Mrs Kitch, is leading the Student Author's Fair this year and asking for your help. There will be a Rio table at the Fair at the Capitola Mall on Saturday, May 5. She needs volunteers to watch the table for one hour time slots If you are able to spare an hour that Saturday please let her know by contacting the office.

Reminders: No school Friday, May 4th.

Hi Families,

We only have 38 more school days left of first grade! Crazy how fast this year has gone!
Here is what will be happening in Room 4 in the coming week.

Writer's Workshop: We will be gathering ideas to start our Realistic Fiction stories. Reading as many realistic fiction stories as possible at home would be a great way to help your child.

Math: We will continue practicing how to add two digit numbers without carrying as well as place value and subtraction facts.

Poetry: We are having a great time learning different styles of poetry and writing poems of our own.  They will be displayed at the 2018 Authors' Fair at the Capitola Mall soon.

Reading: We will be reading at our just right reading level working to get to level K which is the goal for the end of first grade and reading many realistic fiction stories to help us get ready to write our own.

***Reminder***: Thursday is our field trip to SunRidge Farms leaving at 8:15 and returning about 10:40. Remember if you are signed up to drive, they DO NOT allow any the wearing of any jewelry (except for your wedding band)  AND no open toe shoes. Thank you in advance for making this a great field trip for all.  Don't forget to send a booster seat on Thursday!!!!
