Hi Families,

Have a great Spring Vacation!!!

Classroom Needs: Thank you so much for all of the donations!!!!  We could still use prize box items.

Field Trip:  Save the Date!!  May, 11 from 9-11 am.  If you are interested in driving, please make sure your paperwork is in the office.  We can bring a total of 8 parents on this field trip. We will be visiting Jacob's Heart in Watsonville. More details to come when we return from Spring Break.

Homework: Each day your children have homework to improve their reading, spelling and math skills. The two computer based programs listed below help to build those skills. Your child is very familiar with both programs as they work with them each day here at school. Follow the log in procedure, it is different than the one they use at school, and thank you for helping your child learn at home with these amazing programs!

Lexia Reading Core 5 Program:
It is very helpful for you child to work in this program each day at home. This is a self directed program that helps your child with reading and spelling skills. Your child will need a head set to listen to the directions and complete it without any help as they do here at school. I receive a report as to the progress the children are making at with the program at home. I highly recommend it! To access it follow these 4 steps..
1. google lexia core 5

2 go to...
www.lexialearning.com/products/core5
3. go to "sign in" at the top right
4  scroll down to Core5
5 put in my email lea_robinson@pvusd.net (if needed)
4. your child will type in his/her username and password from the card provided

Moby Max
MobyMax is a computer based program and just like the Lexia Reading Core 5 Program, this is a self directed program that helps your child with academic skills at home. Your child will need a head set and then will be able to work in the program without any help.  I receive a progress report just like the Core 5 Program.  Your child will be working in the "math and fact fluency" section. Each student has a unique login. Follow these steps:

1. go to www.mobymax.com
2. fill in school name... rio del mar
3. click "sign in"
4. click "as a student"
5. user name is your child's first name all lower case letters
6. password is your child's first name all lower case letters

Language Arts: Our new Houghton Mifflin story is When I am Old With You Granddaddy which helps us note details.

Phonograms: We have learned all the phonograms for first grade. You children are working hard to find them in the words they read and help them read at a higher level.

Word Wall Words: We just put the LAST 5 word wall words on the board! Now we have all the word wall words for first grade. Please help your children learn to spell them as easily as they read them.

Grammar: We will work on using is/are in the sentences that we write.

Math: We will move into Unit 7 which focuses on understanding place value within the range of 1-120, representing numbers using groups of 1s, 10s and 100, using models, sketches and numbers to add and subtract up to 120 and counting forward and backward by 1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s on a number line.
