Hi Families,


Classroom Needs: Thank you for all of the donations!  As always, prize box items are always greatly appreciated.

Language Arts: We will continue to work with the Houghton Mifflin story Two Greedy Bears. This story will give us examples of making predictions, inferring and giving an opinion.

Phonograms: We have learned all the phonograms for first grade. You children are working hard to find them in the words they read and help them read at a higher level.

Word Wall Words:All first grade word wall words on the board!  Please help your children learn to spell them as easily as they read them.

Writers' Workshop: We continue to work on our opinion writing unit. We are using the acronym OREO to help us remember the structure of a good opinion piece.  We have also started a Poetry Unit and have begun writing our own Acrostic Poems about Spring.

Math: We are working on addition with double digits, counting and adding coins up to $1.00, writing numbers 1-120, and telling time to the hour and half hour.

Hi Families,


Classroom Needs: Thank you for all of the classroom donations.  We appreciate it! We are good on paper towels, tissues, markers, and highlighters.  Prize box items and desks wipes are always in need.

Spring Garden: A special thank you to Maya's family for donating vegetables and flowers to our classroom garden.  Also, thank you to Haley, Indy's mom, and Cindy, Henry's grandma for helping the kids to get it planted!  We look forward to watching it grow.

Open House: I look forward to seeing you on May 4th from 6:30-7:30.

Field Trip: We will be going to Jacob's Heart on May 11th from 9:00-11:00.  Jacob's Heart is an organization that improves the quality of life for children with cancer. Permission slips were sent home today.  If you would like to drive and chaperone, please make sure your paperwork is up to date in the school office and let me know by text or email if you are available. Please remember to send your child to school on the field trip day with his/her booster seat. Any drivers that have extra booster seats please bring them in your car.

Lexia Reading Core 5 Program: It is very helpful for you child to work in this program each day at home. This is a self directed program that helps your child with reading and spelling skills. Your child will need a head set to listen to the directions and complete it without any help as they do here at school. I receive a report as to the progress the children are making at with the program at home. I highly recommend it! To access it follow these 4 steps..

3. go to "sign in" at the top right
4  scroll down to Core5
5 put in my email lea_robinson@pvusd.net (if needed)
4. your child will type in his/her username and password from the card provided

Moby Max 
MobyMax is a computer based program and just like the Lexia Reading Core 5 Program, this is a self directed program that helps your child with academic skills at home. Your child will need a head set and then will be able to work in the program without any help.  I receive a progress report just like the Core 5 Program.  Your child will be working in the "math and fact fluency" section. Each student has a unique login. Follow these steps:

1. go to www.mobymax.com
2. fill in school name... rio del mar 
3. click "sign in" 
4. click "as a student"
5. user name is your child's first name all lower case letters
6. password is your child's first name all lower case letters

Grammar: We will work on working on using the correct punctuation for all our sentences.

Math: We are working in Unit 7 which focuses on understanding place value within the range of 1-120, representing numbers using groups of 1s, 10s and 100, using models, sketches and numbers to add and subtract up to 120 and counting forward and backward by 1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s on a number line.
