Dear Families,

Language Arts: In all the stories we listen to and read, we will determine if they are fiction or non fiction. We will also work on summarizing stories we read.

Grammar: We will continue looking at a sentence deciding if it is a complete sentence or not. In all the  sentences we write and read, we will be looking for the verb and noun.

Phonics: We will find verbs and learn how to use these different; ing, ed, s.

Writer's Workshop: We will focus on finishing up our first "small moment" story this week and plan to publish and celebrate our first stories next week in class.

Word Wall Words: **No new word wall words this week due to the short week...Your children will learn 5 new word wall words each week and together we will put them on our Word Wall. Listed below are the word wall words on our wall so far and the 5 new ones. It is my hope that you will make a word wall at home or make flashcards to practice daily with your child. This will help your child with reading, writing, and spelling.

Star of the Week: We will begin this program the week of October 16.! Please look out for the note home on when your child is the "Star".  I will be sending out the October Stars this week so you will have plenty of time to prepare for this exciting week!  If you have any questions or need to make a change in the schedule, just let me know.

Math: Our focus this week will continue to be using our math strategies with addition and starting our look at subtraction using Fact Families. We will also start working with word problems both addition and subtraction. I sent home the pages from our Home Connection Book that your child can complete to review math concepts. They DO NOT need to return them to me.

Lexia Reading Core 5 Program: It is very helpful for you child to work in this program each day at home. This is a self directed program that helps your child with reading and spelling skills. Your child will need a head set to listen to the directions and complete it without any help as they do here at school. I receive a report as to the progress the children are making at with the program at home. I highly recommend it! To access it follow these 4 steps..

1. google lexia core 5
2 go to...
www.lexialearning.com/products/core5
3. go to "sign in" at the top right
4  scroll down to Core5
5 put in my email lea_robinson@pvusd.net (if needed)
4. your child will type in his/her username and password from the card provided

Moby Max is HERE!

MobyMax is a computer based program and just like the Lexia Reading Core 5 Program, this is a self directed program that helps your child with academic skills at home. Using a headset, your child will be able to work in the program without any help.  I receive a weekly progress report just like the Core 5 Program and hope to see your child progressing in a consistent manner through the program.  Your child will be working in the "math and fact fluency" section. Each student has a unique login. Follow the steps written on your child's log in card. I stapled it to your child's class folder.
