Hi Families,

It was so great to have all of you on the field trip! What a great time and thank you again for driving!!!

Reminder: So excited that our RTI will begin this Monday, September 26th.  As Mrs. Dorney told you all at Back to School Night, RTI (Response to Instruction) is our school-wide leveled reading program.  This program is designed to meet the specific reading needs of each child.  All reading groups are fluid and students will move from group to group according to their ability, needs and growth and we will keep you up to date.

Help Please: Please take the time daily to sit with your children, ask them to open their school folder and go over the work that they have brought home. This is a great way for you to stay connected to the learning that is happening here in room 6. After reviewing your child's work, please keep it at home. If you have a note for me or some other paperwork to turn in, please put it in the folder and remind your child to take it out in the morning and put it in the Finished Basket.

Language Arts: We will enjoy a new story this week from our Houghton Mifflin Reading Series titled Seasons. The strategy focus will be working on is evaluating as well as working on the comprehension skills of finding the topic, main idea, details and summarizing the story. It would be great to work on these skills on at home with your child as you enjoy daily reading time together.

Phonics: We will begin our the second half of our Total Reading Program which introduces the phonograms, two or three letters that when together make one or more sounds. We will review the SH ,CH, and TH sounds this week.

Writing: We have continue our new school wide writing program, Writing Workshop,  working on our narrative pieces. We will continue to be in the "gathering" phase of the writing process next week thinking about small moments in our lives.

Grammar: We will learn what a sentence is and what each sentence needs.

Social Studies: We will use our Studies Weekly periodical to learn about the American and California flags, the Pledge of Allegiance and the history of Labor Day. Being kind to others will be weaved into all the daily lessons.

Math: We will work in Module 1 Unit 2 in our Bridges Math Program where students will work on sharing and discussing addition strategies beyond counting by 1's such as counting on, combining small groups and working from known facts to those that are less familiar.

Classroom Needs Wish List: large zip lock bags, colored pencils, prizes for prize box, skinny white board markers, $ for our classroom fund...
