Hi Families,

Hope you all enjoy your long three day weekend.  Thank you so much for the donations to buy our privacy boards! We are also in need of: two pocket folders, heavy duty page protectors, colored pencils, and prizes for our prize box.

Here is a peek at our upcoming week:

Language Arts: We will enjoy a new story this week from our Houghton Mifflin Reading Series titled Mr. C's Dinner. We will continue to focus on predicting and inferring as well as working on summarizing the stories we read; beginning, middle, and end.

Phonics: We began our Total Reading Program starting with the /sh/ sound like in the words, shut, shop and ship. We will learn a few more this week. Have fun finding these new phonograms in the stories that you and your children are reading.

Writing: We will continue our new school wide writing program, Writing Workshop, working on our narrative pieces. We are in the "picking a seed" phase for the coming week.

Grammar: We will work on find the nouns in the sentences that we read and write.

Social Studies: We will use our Studies Weekly periodical to learn about the American and California flags, the Pledge of Allegiance and the history of Labor Day. Being kind to others will be weaved into all the daily lessons.

Math: We will work in Unit 2  Module 3 in our Bridges Math Program where students will focus on developing addition and subtraction strategies, particularly doubling, counting on, and counting back to solve combinations within twelve.
