Hi Families,

Hope you enjoy the rain this weekend! Here is a peek at our upcoming week:

Language Arts: We will enjoy two new stories from our Houghton Mifflin Reading Series; Hilda Hen's Scary Night and What a Trip. The strategy focus for each is questioning and the comprehension strategy is categorizing and classifying. We will continue to focus on the elements of a story; beginning, middle, end, problem and solution.

Phonics: We will learn new phonograms this week as we go through our Total Reading Program. Please look for your child's work each day and have fun going on phonogram hunts as you read your together each night. So far we have learned: sh, th, wh, ch.

Word Wall Words:
Here is a list of the words that are on our Word Wall: It is a great idea to make a Word Wall for your child at home or make flashcards. We will start adding 5 more each week so knowing these are very important.

Writing: We will continue our new school wide writing program, Writing Workshop, working on our narrative pieces. We will finish the revision phase and go into the editing phase this week.

Grammar: We will work on finding the action part of a sentence as we read and write this week.

Math: We will work in Unit 2 Module 4 in our Bridges Math Program where students will focus on counting by 5s and 10s to become more efficient at counting amounts larger than 10. We will also work with the coins, pennies, nickels and dimes this week which will give your child another opportunity to count by 1s, 5s and 10s. Working with coins at home is a great help to your child!

Reminder: Our Rio Book Fair is the week of parent conferences so why not plan on doing some early holiday shopping and supporting our school?!
