Dear Families,

Happy February and happy 100 day of school. We had fun today making our 100 Day Book and doing activities the 100 Way!

Reminder: No School Monday, February 11th and Monday, February 18th.

Spirit Day: Wednesday, February 5th: Crazy Clothes Day

Reading: We are well underway with our new balanced literacy program, Reading Workshop and excited to start Unit 2, How To Get Super Smart About Non Fiction Topics!  We organized our class library pulling out all of our non fiction books and can't wait to use the good reading habits we learned from unit 1 as we dive into non fiction books!

Writing: In our writing program, Writing Workshop, we are immersed in non fiction as well. We will continue for about 6 weeks leaning how to write to share information. We will have lots of discussions about how we are experts on many things and can use this style of writing to share what we know. When writing in the genre, your child will learning how to write an interesting introduction, give 3 or more facts, add details, add pictures and offer a conclusion. They will also learn about the text features most non fictions book have. Reading lots of non fictions books at home and noting the text features will help your child greatly.

Math: We will continue for several weeks working in Engage New York's Module 4: Place Value. Please review all the math worksheets that your child brings home to see the skills he/she is learning. During our Number Corner Time, we will be combine dimes, nickels and pennies as well as telling time to the hour and half hour. Using the Engage New York Homework Pages at home will help your child with his/her math skills.
